Werner Plans To Double AV Truck Pilot Partners

Werner Plans To Double AV Truck Pilot Partners

Werner Enterprises is evaluating self-driving truck technologies and their potential road use, but a swift adoption and transition are unlikely, according to a company executive.

Chad Dittberner, SVP of van and expedited services, stated in a May 2 interview that the limited number of firms currently involved means less competition, and autonomous vehicles (AVs) might be more expensive in the initial years of their rollout.

The Omaha, Nebraska-based carrier is assessing various self-driving technologies and plans to add two more AV firms later this year, doubling its existing pilot partners, Dittberner noted.

Currently, Werner is testing with Aurora Innovation in Texas and Kodiak Robotics from Texas to Georgia.
