Truck Transportation Jobs Down In May

Truck transportation jobs saw a significant decline in May, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), returning to the levels observed in November. Seasonally adjusted jobs decreased by 5,400 from April, bringing the total to 1,550,100, the same as in November.

This decline is the third-largest since job numbers began rising in 2020 following a significant drop reported in April 2020. The most substantial post-pandemic decline occurred due to the closure of Yellow Corp., which led to a decrease of 31,600 jobs as noted in the BLS August report. The May decline of 5,400 jobs is surpassed only by this and the 5,700 jobs lost in September 2022.
