Mexico's Tractor-Trailer Cargo Theft Problem

Mexico's Tractor-Trailer Cargo Theft Problem

Cargo theft in Mexico continues to be a major concern for the trucking industry. According to the National Association of Vehicle Tracking and Protection Companies (ANERPV), tractor-trailer thefts are on the rise.

They reported an average of five thefts per day in April 2024, a 7.7% increase from the same month last year. This upward trend is troubling, with a total of 546 thefts reported in the first four months of 2024, representing a 5% year-over-year increase.

The Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS) adds to the concern by reporting that Kenworth tractor-trailers are the most stolen, followed by Freightliner and International brands. Dry van trailers are the most targeted trailer type, and disturbingly, over 70% of these thefts involve violence.
