CBP Officers Seize $5.4M In Methamphetamine In A Shipment Of Papayas

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations officers at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry recently intercepted over $5.4 million worth of methamphetamine in a single enforcement action.

The interception took place on May 9 at the Pharr International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a tractor-trailer transporting a commercial shipment of papayas for secondary inspection.

CBP officers conducted a comprehensive examination, employing a non-intrusive inspection system and CBP canines. Upon further physical inspection, officers uncovered 369 packages containing a total of 606 pounds of suspected methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle. The seized narcotics had an estimated street value of $5,419,700.
