Freight volumes and expenditures continued to decline in June, according to data from Cass Information Systems.
The Cass Freight Index showed a 6% year-over-year decrease in shipments, marking the largest decline in five months. This downturn was attributed to ongoing softness in for-hire trucking demand and a shift towards private fleet transportation by companies.
The report suggests that while the current situation indicates a potential bottom for freight volumes, challenges persist due to slowing economic growth and flattish goods demand.
