Border Agents Snag Record Breaking $48M In Meth From Mexico

Officials recently seized a record quantity of methamphetamine from a produce shipment at a Texas border crossing. The drug seizure occurred on August 1 at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in Pharr, Texas.

A tractor-trailer entering the U.S. from Mexico was inspected using non-intrusive inspection technology. Upon a physical inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers, 3,429.40 pounds of methamphetamine were found concealed within a shipment of lettuce.

CBP stated that this seizure is the largest methamphetamine interception in the history of the Hidalgo Port of Entry, with a street value exceeding $48 million.
