U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Pharr International Bridge seized a significant amount of methamphetamine during an enforcement action over the weekend, valued at more than $17.4 million.
The seizure took place on September 28 when a CBP officer referred a tractor trailer carrying a shipment of coconuts for secondary inspection. Using a non-intrusive inspection system and trained canines, officers conducted a thorough examination and discovered 378 packages containing nearly 1,950 pounds of alleged methamphetamine hidden within the trailer.
CBP has seized both the narcotics and the tractor trailer, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents have initiated a criminal investigation into the matter.
