Trucking Company Owner Used Semis To Smuggle Drugs to Chicago

A Texas trucking company owner has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his involvement in coordinating a drug pipeline from Mexico to Chicago.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Farias coordinated with truck drivers in 2015 and 2016 to transport large quantities of narcotics concealed in the hollowed-out wheel axles of tractor-trailers.

He also oversaw the unloading of the drugs from the trucks by traffickers, who then placed the proceeds from drug transactions back into the trucks for transport to Texas and Mexico.

Farias's drug trafficking organization utilized warehouses in Naperville and Sugar Grove, Illinois, as well as an abandoned auto lot in West Garfield Park and an auto repair shop in Channahon. Law enforcement seized approximately 54 kilograms of heroin, nearly 17 kilograms of cocaine, and $630,200 in illicit cash proceeds during the investigation.

Seven other individuals have been convicted in connection with this investigation. Prosecutors emphasized the detrimental impact of the drugs distributed by Farias and his co-conspirators, noting that they fueled addiction, harmed families, and devastated communities for the profit of the defendants.
