Surge Transportation Emerges From Bankruptcy

Surge Transportation Inc., headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 24, 2023, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida (case number 23-bk-01712). The company reported estimated assets and liabilities between $10 million and $50 million, with a creditor count ranging from 1,000 to 5,000.

Remarkably, Surge Transportation emerged from bankruptcy after just one year, successfully completing its reorganization by July 24, 2024. This achievement marked a significant milestone for the company, as it became the first brokerage to ever successfully reorganize.

Prior to its emergence, rumors circulated regarding unpaid wages to employees. However, Surge's President and Founder, Omar Singh, publicly refuted these claims on LinkedIn.

""Surge has never owed $155k in wages to employees. We do not and have not owed any wages to any employees. The figure in question relates to a disputed amount with an offshore staffing company regarding a notice of termination clause, not for any work performed. It may have been mistakenly classified as a 'wages' claim in some court document, but it was neither wages nor for work performed. We have reached a mutual agreement with that company, so the document is also not current."

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Jacksonville approved Surge Transportation's reorganization plan.
