Port of Los Angeles Sees Busiest Month Since Pandemic

In August, the Port of Los Angeles handled 960,597 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), marking a 16% increase compared to the previous year and making it the busiest month ever outside the pandemic.

The leading U.S. container gateway is 17% ahead of its 2023 pace, having already processed nearly 1 million more containers than last year.

Loaded imports totaled 509,363 TEUs, an 18% increase from the previous year, while loaded exports reached 121,744 TEUs, down 3% from 2023. The port also processed 329,491 empty containers, a 22% increase compared to last year.

Overall, the port has moved 6,631,688 TEUs during the first eight months of 2024, reflecting a 17% increase over the same period in 2023.
