NY Trucking Group Sues To Stop Congestion Fee

The Trucking Association of New York (TANY) is taking legal action against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in an attempt to stop a new congestion fee for vehicles entering Manhattan below 60th Street.

This first-of-its-kind toll, set to launch on June 30th, aims to reduce traffic and emissions. However, TANY argues the plan unfairly burdens truck drivers.

Unequal Burden:

  • Heavy trucks face peak hour fees of $24 to $36, while taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber will only see passenger-funded increases of $1.25 to $2.50 per trip.
  • TANY highlights that taxis and ride-sharing vehicles contribute significantly to congestion (estimated at 50%), yet largely avoid the fee.
