Universal Capacity Solutions (UCS), a Nashville-based freight brokerage, has ceased operations, resulting in the layoff of approximately 130 employees. The closure was announced by the company's parent company, Universal Logistics Holdings Inc. (ULH), without prior warning.
A skeleton crew from UCS is currently working to wind down operations and ensure that trucking companies are paid for their services. While there have been reports of motor carriers being stranded with loads, the company believes that these issues may be due to miscommunication during the closure process.
The sudden shutdown has caused chaos within the company, as employees and trucking companies are grappling with the unexpected closure. Some trucking companies have shared messages from UCS brokers about the 3PL's demise, although the closure was not officially confirmed until Thursday.
Universal Capacity Solutions is a wholly owned subsidiary of ULH, headquartered in Warren, Michigan. ULH operates several logistics and transportation services throughout North America.
