Massive Cargo Theft from Moving Semi-Trucks

Canadian police have arrested Marius Ionescu, 36, in connection with a series of cargo thefts in the Toronto area.

He faces charges of theft over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offense, and robbery. Warrants have also been issued for two other suspects, Florian Porumbita, 29, and Florian Porumbita, 27 (same name, different people).

The suspects allegedly participated in multiple thefts in Mississauga and Oakville during May and June 2024. On May 28, they followed a Purolator tractor-trailer, breached the trailer while it was moving, and stole $1.8 million in merchandise. On June 10, they distracted the driver of another tractor-trailer to steal $300,000 in electronics.

On July 11, they attempted to force a tractor trailer to stop but were unsuccessful. On June 28, they confronted a driver in Oakville while trying to board a trailer loaded with electronics valued at $120,000, but fled when threatened. No firearms were reported during these incidents.
