Lithium Battery Truck Catches Fire Outside Las Vegas

A crash involving a truck carrying lithium batteries led to a fire and caused the closure of a section of U.S. Highway 95 on Tuesday morning. This is the latest in a series of incidents where trucks transporting lithium batteries have been involved in crashes and subsequent fires, disrupting traffic.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred at U.S. Highway 95 near Mile Marker 13 in Nye County, between state Route 160 and Mercury. According to authorities, two semi-trucks were involved—one carrying wood and the other hauling lithium batteries.

The Highway Patrol confirmed that the lithium batteries caught fire, with the truck carrying 31,000 pounds of batteries.
