DEA’s 3rd Largest Meth Seizure Ever Found In Tractor Trailer

Authorities recently made a massive drug bust, seizing over 2,300 pounds of methamphetamine concealed within a tractor-trailer loaded with celery.

“This is the largest meth seizure at DEA Atlanta and third-largest total meth seizure DEA wide,” said DEA Special Agent In Charge Robert Murphy. “This was contained in a cover load of celery…It was hiding in the celery. Obviously, we threw away the celery. That didn’t make it to the store.”

This seizure marks the third largest methamphetamine bust in DEA history. The drugs were intercepted while being transported to a farmer's market in Clayton County, Georgia.

“Most of these kind of seizures happen on a border or port of entry, and we’re several states away from a border,” said Murphy. “This cartel was very confident in what they been doing to send this much at one time.”

The DEA has emphasized the unusual nature of the discovery, as most large-scale drug seizures occur near border crossings. A Mexican national, the truck driver, was arrested in connection with the crime.
