CBP Finds Fentanyl in a Flatbed Trailer

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers intercepted a significant drug smuggling attempt at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility on August 9th. A 44-year-old driver with a valid border crossing card was referred for secondary inspection after presenting a commercial tractor-trailer with an empty flatbed.

CBP officers utilized non-intrusive inspection technology to identify anomalies within the trailer. A subsequent K-9 scan alerted officers to the presence of narcotics.

A thorough examination revealed 77 packages of cocaine (227.96 pounds) and 50 packages of fentanyl powder (133.60 pounds) concealed within a hidden compartment of the flatbed trailer.
