Record Meth Bust at US-Canada Border; Likely Largest Ever

Canadian border officials have reportedly made what is likely the largest narcotics seizure in the history of Canada's Western provinces. At the Boissevain port of entry in southern Manitoba, approximately 896 pounds of suspected methamphetamine were discovered during a check on a truck crossing from North Dakota into Canada, as announced in a news release.

The seized drugs, equating to around 4 million doses of methamphetamine, have an estimated street value exceeding $50.7 million.

The incident took place on January 14, and the details were officially disclosed on Wednesday. The truck, bound for Winnipeg, was driven by Komalpreet Sidhu, a 29-year-old resident of Winnipeg.

Sidhu has been taken into custody by the Manitoba branch of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and faces charges of importation of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Notably, this occurrence follows another case involving Canadian long-haul truckers charged with participating in a drug ring that smuggled and transported cocaine and methamphetamine from Mexico to California, eventually crossing the Canadian border.
