The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office reported the interstate is closed due to a “multi-vehicle pileup, active fire, and explosion threat.” Local outlet Sweetwater NOW reported that multiple passenger vehicles and semi-trucks were involved, with several fatalities confirmed.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced that both directions of I-80 are closed between Rock Springs and Green River at mile marker 90 (Green River Tunnels). All westbound traffic is being diverted to exit 91, while eastbound traffic is being rerouted to exit 89. There is no estimated time for I-80 to reopen.
