GM Ends Jack Cooper Relationship

Just weeks after Ford Motor Co. terminated its auto-hauling contract with Jack Cooper, General Motors (GM) has also ended its relationship with the auto carrier, with both parties pointing fingers at each other for the breakdown.
On Friday, the Detroit Free Press reported that GM had ceased providing vehicles to Jack Cooper for transport. GM confirmed the split in a statement, explaining that the relationship had soured to the point where no vehicles were being loaded, prompting the auto carrier to take alternative actions.
In contrast, Jack Cooper placed the blame on GM for pulling out. "General Motors informed Jack Cooper that it would pull all business with us, rejecting all proposals to continue working together," the carrier said in a statement.
However, Jack Cooper stressed that the relationship is not permanently severed, adding, “We remain ready, willing, and able to negotiate with General Motors regarding a continued business relationship.”
This latest development follows Ford’s decision to end its partnership with Jack Cooper about five weeks ago. Meanwhile, two U.S. senators have demanded Ford provide clarification regarding the termination of its agreement with the carrier.
Jack Cooper's workforce is organized by the Teamsters.
