FMCSA Voids 15,000 Medical Certificates
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has invalidated thousands of medical examiner certificates issued by two Houston-area doctors, potentially jeopardizing the livelihoods of over 15,000 commercial drivers.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has invalidated thousands of medical examiner certificates issued by two Houston-area doctors, potentially jeopardizing the livelihoods of over 15,000 commercial drivers.
The investigation revealed that both doctors had not properly applied the necessary standards to determine if drivers were physically qualified to operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs).
As a result, FMCSA voided over 15,000 unexpired Medical Examiner’s Certificates (MECs) issued by Drs. Le and Mai, affecting 15,225 commercial drivers. While the invalidation does not immediately disqualify these drivers, they must obtain a new certificate from a qualified examiner by May 10. Failure to do so could lead to their commercial driver’s license (CDL) being downgraded by the state licensing agency.
