CBP Officers Find $3.2 Million in Meth Hidden in Trailer Floor

CBP officers at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility began October by seizing over $3.2 million in methamphetamine hidden within the floor frame of a tractor-trailer.

The incident took place when officers encountered a 40-year-old male driver seeking entry into the United States from Mexico in an empty commercial tractor-trailer. After a preliminary inspection, the driver, who possessed a valid border crossing card, was referred for a more thorough examination.

During the secondary inspection, non-intrusive screening technology revealed anomalies in the tractor-trailer’s floor frame. A CBP K-9 unit was deployed and alerted officers to the presence of narcotics.

Upon conducting a physical examination of the floor, officers discovered 265 concealed packages, which were tested and identified as methamphetamine. The total weight of the drugs was approximately 2,686 pounds, with an estimated street value of $3,220,000.00.
