A Customs and Border Protection officer was arrested in El Paso on charges related to his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to smuggle undocumented noncitizens and drug trafficking activities, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas.

Manuel Perez Jr., 32, of El Paso, is accused of smuggling and attempting to smuggle undocumented noncitizens into the U.S. for financial gain between December 2023 and February 2025. Court documents reveal that Perez allowed a vehicle driven by an undocumented noncitizen to pass through the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry as part of human smuggling operations.

Perez is also accused of conspiring to possess over 5kg of cocaine from November 2019 to February 2025 for distribution across Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina, and other locations.
