Partnership For In-Road, In-Motion Charging For Electric Semi Trucks

Indiana is taking a big leap towards the future of electric vehicles with a groundbreaking collaboration between the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Purdue University, and Cummins

The project will test a revolutionary in-road, in-motion charging system for electric vehicles. A designated quarter-mile stretch of US 231/US 52 near West Lafayette will be outfitted with special technology.

Underneath the regular concrete surface, dedicated lanes will be embedded with transmitter coils. These coils will send power wirelessly to receiver coils mounted on the underside of electric vehicles.

This will allow researchers to evaluate how effectively Purdue's patent-pending system can charge heavy-duty electric trucks while they travel at highway speeds
