Over 1,300 Layoffs Hit Logistics Companies

Layoffs continue across the freight and logistics industry, with companies in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan and Texas announcing job reductions and facility closures over the past two weeks.

Universal Logistics: The Michigan-based company is permanently closing two subsidiaries, Logistics Insights Corp. and Universal Dedicated of Detroit, resulting in the layoff of 677 employees. This includes truck drivers, warehouse workers, and office staff. No reason was given for the closures.

Swissport Cargo Services: The global cargo handler is laying off a total of 613 workers at cargo handling operations in Atlanta and Newark due to losing contracts with e-commerce giant Amazon.

The Kroger Co: The grocery store chain is closing delivery hubs in San Antonio, Austin, and Miami, eliminating over 230 jobs, mostly delivery drivers. The closures stem from the underperformance of Kroger's e-commerce grocery delivery service.

RXO Logistics: The transportation solutions provider is laying off 114 employees at a facility in Michigan due to a lost customer contract.
