Former Trucker Faces Life In Prison For Role In Drug Trafficking

Texas truck driver Javier Robledo Perez, 39, pleaded guilty on April 26 in federal court in Worcester, Massachusetts,to his role in a large-scale cocaine trafficking ring.

According to court documents and officials, Perez was caught in May 2020 while transporting 30 kilograms (around 66 pounds) of cocaine hidden in his commercial semi-truck. Investigators believe Perez, working for a Mexico and Texas-based drug organization, arranged to deliver the drugs to a cooperating witness in Massachusetts.

Perez's guilty plea for conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute cocaine carries a hefty penalty. He faces a minimum of 10 years in prison, potentially life, with additional supervised release and a hefty fine.

This case wasn't the only one. Co-defendant Carlos Alfredo Longoria, another Texas truck driver from Laredo, pleaded guilty last year to similar charges and received a 34-month prison sentence. The investigation involved the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF).
