February U.S Container Import Volumes Decline

The latest Global Shipping Report from Descartes Systems Group revealed a mixed picture for U.S. container import volumes in February 2024. While there was a 6% decline compared to January, the figures showed a remarkable 23.3% year-over-year increase when compared to the same month in 2023.

However, these statistics may not fully capture the entire story. The report highlighted the impact of the Chinese Lunar New Year, which significantly influences shipping volumes, and fell on different months in 2023 and 2024. Accounting for this factor, Descartes estimates that the actual growth rate for U.S. container import volumes is around 13%.
