Border Wait Times In Texas Increase Due To State-Led Inspections

Truck drivers transporting goods from Mexico into Texas can anticipate extended wait times at border crossings for the foreseeable future.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) recently resumed conducting enhanced safety inspections of commercial vehicles entering Texas at two key ports of entry: the Bridge of the Americas and the Ysleta-Zaragoza International Bridge

This move has resulted in longer processing times, impacting cross-border trade. According to Manuel Sotelo, president of the National Chamber of Cargo Transportation's Northern Mexico chapter, approximately 450 trucks faced delays on the Mexican side over the weekend, with some drivers reporting waits exceeding 10 hours.

To mitigate these delays, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced immediate adjustments. These include the temporary extension of cargo processing hours at the Santa Teresa and Marcelino Serna (Tornillo) ports of entry. CBP will continue to monitor the situation and may further adapt operations as needed.
