Baltimore Port Channel Set To Fully Reopen In May

The Port of Baltimore is set for a phased reopening following the bridge collapse incident. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is aiming to open a temporary, limited access channel by the end of April.

This 280-foot-wide, 35-foot-deep channel will allow one-way traffic for specific cargo ships, like barge container services and vehicles transported via roll-on/roll-off vessels. By the end of May, the USACE expects to fully reopen the permanent Fort McHenry Channel, restoring the port to its normal capacity.

This permanent channel measures 700 feet wide and 50 feet deep. While vessel traffic remains suspended, cargo processing inside the port's terminals continues for trucks. It's important to note that the timeline could be adjusted due to weather conditions or unforeseen challenges during wreckage removal.
